Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc, is a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA),
a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including HP).
Blu-ray was developed to enable the recording, rewriting and playback of High Definition (HD) video, as well as the storage of large amounts of data.
This format provides more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25 GB on a single-layer disc and 50 GB
on a dual-layer disc.
While current optical disc technologies (such as DVD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD-RAM) rely on a red laser to read and write data,
Blu-ray uses a blue-violet laser. However, through the use of a Blue-ray Disk/DVD/CD compatible optical pickup unit, the HP Compaq
Business Notebook PC implementation of Blu-ray is backwards-compatible with CDs and DVDs.
The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405 nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), making it possible to focus
the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly, supporting more data on the same sized disk as a CD/DVD.
Blu-ray is currently supported by more than 170 of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer, recording media,
video game and music companies. The format also has broad support from the major movie studios as a successor to today's
DVD format - many major movie studios have already announced titles for Blu-ray. For more information go to this

- What is HP 3D DriveGuard?
HP DriveGuard and HP 3D DriveGuard
Many hard drive failures are caused by operational shock when an active hard drive experiences excessive impact. HP DriveGuard helps prevent such failures, reducing the transmission of shock and protecting your data from the effects of everyday bumps and drops. By default, your notebook goes into standby mode when its lid is closed, ensuring that heads are parked while you are traveling or moving from meeting to meeting. In addition, a hard-mount solution reduces the transmission of shock to the hard drive.
3D Digital Accelerometer
HP 3D DriveGuard, featuring the 3D Digital Accelerometer, is an enhancement to HP DriveGuard, providing three-way digital motion detection to protect data in the event of impact.
HP helps protect your critical information by keeping your hard drive parked while on the move. No major competitor matches the level of protection provided by this HP solution.
Features
HP 3D DriveGuard mitigates the risk of hard drive failure by protecting against short drops, rough handling, and other everyday wear and tear. Features include:
A hard mount solution reduces the transmission of shock to the hard drive; counter-measures include rigid mounting, foam to eliminate micro-motion, enhanced foot design, and a pad to reduce flex.
The 3D Digital Accelerometer provides additional protection against operational shock. Its motion-sensing device can sense impending risk to the notebook's hard drives from sudden changes in motion - before the disks can be damaged by a drop. The 3D Digital Accelerometer notifies system software of the danger, giving the system time to temporarily stop the disks by unloading their heads; in this way, information stored on the disks can be protected.
With HP 3D DriveGuard, the notebook need no longer be in standby mode with the lid closed to provide protection for the hard drives.
- What's the difference between a consumer-class laptop and a business-class laptop?
Consumer-class laptops are designed for the single home user for entertainment and daily tasks and generally include only a one year warranty with limited technical support requiring you to send the laptop to the manufacturer for repairs. Business-class systems are built around security, reliability, manageability, and affordability with much longer, stable lifecycles. When purchasing a laptop through CampusHP, you will be receiving only the highest quality business-class laptop available.
- What happens if I spill something on my computer or otherwise accidentally damage it?
Accidental damage warranties are not included in the purchase of most laptops. If you do not have this protection, a repair such as a cracked screen can cost over $700, and more serious damage may mean you need to buy a new computer.
- Why should I pair Accidental Damage and Student Care?
You should pair the two so that you get full coverage no matter what happens to your laptop.
- What kind of a discount can I expect?
